  • Lindsey & Clayton: MARRIED!

    Lindsey & Clayton: MARRIED!

So Lindsey is prolly one of my FAVORITE brides. She is super fun & down to earth, funny & just lights up a room whenever she is in it! Her & her, now husband, came all the way from San Diego, CA!

I first met Lindsey & Clayton at her bridal trial. They came to Mystique Salon & Day Spa (makeup by Amy Brox) for Lindsey's hair & make up trial. Clayton was so supportive of Lindsey & all of her decisions. Always telling her how beautiful she is, he is a winner!!

Lindsey got married in Kitty Hawk, NC. Her wedding day was a very grey, overcast day. But, as the day progressed the sun was peeking its little head out, so I had high hopes that the day would turn out beautiful! It stayed pretty dry during the portraits...

But, then when it was time for her to say "I DO" the skies opened up & this happened....

Everyone ran inside to resume the ceremony. Lindsey had a smile on her face the whole time. You could tell she was just happy to be marrying her best friend.

  • MYSTIQUE DAY SPA & CRYSTAL CASEY: THE BREAKUP

Ok, so I feel like this is the beginning of a Taylor Swift song. Like at any moment I'm gonna break out into some guitar strumming, ballad about my broken heart & how I have the best revenge by being happy......"we are never, ever, ever, getting back toetherrrrrrr....."

But, in all reality...that's not the case at all.

But, let me first start by saying...I am no longer an employee at Mystique Salon & Day Spa. I am now strictly working for myself. High Voltage Hair by Crystal Casey! Its exciting & scary all at the same time.

I worked at Mystique Salon & Day Spa 5 years ago (2 years out of hair school) I thought I knew it alllll. I quickly learned I did not. HAHA! Amy (the owner) took a huge chance on me when she hired me. My ego & know it all attitude quickly sent me on my way (by choice). Amanda (her sister & Master Stylist) was my mentor for over a year while I worked there & still remains to this day to be one of my biggest cheerleaders, supporters & mentor. (& isnt she so pretty???!?!)

Last December, Amanda spoke to Amy on my behalf about bringing me back into the salon. I was ready to be back in a salon environment, be a team player, have continuing education with the backing of all the Mystique girls, work on events & brainstorm fabulous ideas together as a TEAM! & we did just that, we ROCKED some movie nights (& had a great time doing it) we executed a phonemail bridal shoot, & shared & enjoyed some great Paul Mitchell education.

Amy was very understanding about my current wedding business & allowed me to continue booking weddings. We agreed that my schedule would be very few days to begin with as I tried to transition my clients from a home based business to the structure of a salon & build from any walk-ins that would come my way. The wedding season that would happen for me in 2014 completely blindsided both of us.

I think I spent a total of 5 Saturdays in the salon from Jan-Sept. & lets face it, Saturday is a busy day in the salon. I also had some unforeseen health issues this year that kept me out on the 1-2 days that I was scheduled to be there outside of the weekend.

Ultimately, Amy felt it was best for her business & mine to terminate my contract.

Its not that I was a bad employee/stylist or that she was a heartless boss, because that most certainly is not that case at all. Honestly, she just couldn't keep me booked. I had many NO CALL/NO SHOWS & cancellations while I was there, leaving my days empty. But, for the clients that I did have in my chair, that I did build that bond with, that I did get that chance to make them feel beautiful & special....I will miss them but, I know they are in good hands with the girls there!

She also stated that she recognized all the hard work I had put into building my business & that I was better suited to be a business owner, than an employee. She has since helped me with any problems I have faced or questions I have had on the business side of things. Amy is a business guru & a great mentor.

I still have a wonderful relationship with all the girls there, specifically Amy. She gave me a very personal letter stating how sad she was that she had to make this decision, we even shared a very heartfelt moment & some tears were shed by both of us.

In my time at Mystique I helped launch, what I know to be, a wonderful Bridal division. We shot an AMAZING bridal shoot & I got to know & love the girls there all over again. I built personal & professional relationships that I hope will continue to grow.

Amy & I still work together as stylist & makeup artist on styled shoots & weddings together & will continue to do so as our businesses grow.

(Thats supposed to say August 25th 2014!)

I will miss seeing all these girls every week!

  • PRODUCT REVIEW: Fave 4 Hairsprays

    PRODUCT REVIEW: Fave 4 Hairsprays

Ok, for those of you who know me......or know anything about my passion for wedding hair, you know that I am a HAIRSPRAY.JUNKIE. So I am always looking for the new & unknown in the hairspray world. I try new brands as they come out. Some I love, some I hate. So when I saw the Fave 4 four pack. I had to try them out.

I wont lie, I was highly disappointed. I had read other reviews on them raving about how amazing they were & how great it was that they came out in four different "flavors". Well, ummm...No. Just No.

Theres four hairsprays so that means four separate reviews also since heat & hairspray go hand in hand, I will be including a "Heat Protectant Ranking" as well.

    MY REVIEW

First up is the Texture Takeover from Fave 4.

Fave for dry, texturized hold, all-over volume, and weightless lift.

This is for that teased up, messy, beach wave kind of look. But, make no mistake, you wont get that extra "OOMPH" that this spray promises. What is this good for? Spraying before curling. It will give your curls that piecey textured, bohemian look. Not so good for volume, it's too heavy. It has a mild hold.

Scale of 1-10 for Texture Takeover. I'd give this spray a 5.  Heat Protectant ranking is a 3.

Second, we have the Workable Wear from Fave 4.

Fave for brushable hold, reworkable styles, braiding, twisting, & teasing

Out of the four, I have to say this is my FAVE (haha see what I did there??) This one is GREAT for my every day work as well as building an amazing formal style for a bride. Its not too sticky, plays well with heat & also has enough hold to hold the curls Im working with. This is also great for quick every day styles such as top knots & braids. This spray has a mild hold-medium hold.

Scale of 1-10 for the Workable Wear, Id give this spray a 7. Heat Protectant ranks a 8.

Third, we have Style Stay from Fave 4.

    Fave for up-dos, side-sweeps, and stay-put braids

This one has all the promises of an amazing hair spray. But, its not. It sucks. I hate it. I have never thrown out a full bottle of hairspray before....but I guess there are exceptions to everything. It says its fave for up-dos. NO. Up-dos involve heat. If you put hear anywhere near this spray it will instantly turn white & flake. Do I feel like its cute to walk around looking like I have dandruff? NO & you shouldn't either. Side sweeps? Nope. After 30 Mins in any kind of humidity this spray gives up & goes running. Leaving.....yes....flakes. If you see this hairspray...just say NO. This spray has a firm hold.

Scale of 1-10 for the Style Stay Id say -1. Heat Protectant ranks a -1.

Last, but not least we have Flex Reflect from fave 4.

Fave for long, movable layers, bobs, curls, waves

This is my second FAVE in the bunch. This spray is perfect for flat ironing, building up-dos & every day styling. It also has a touch of shine to it which I adore. <3 This spray is not sticky & is plays well with heat. This spray has a medium hold.

Scale of 1-10 for Flex Reflect 9. Heat Protectant ranks 8.

I guess 2 out of 4 isn't horrible. But, for the RAVE reviews that these sprays got I feel they were highly OVER RATED. I MIGHT invest in the Flex Reflect & Workable Wear again but, I feel like my money would be better spent on a spray I know & trust.

Have you used Fave 4 sprays before? What did you think?

  • Hayley Paige: Paloma Gown

    Hayley Paige: Paloma Gown

Every wedding dress has a designer behind it & every wedding dress has a name. Each dress is like a little baby to the designer. Its a completed master piece, a work of art on display.

I have worked with many wedding dresses on stylized shoots & at real weddings in the past years.

Hayley Paige is by far one of my favorite designers. Her dresses are fun, a little funky yet, still femine & glamourous. Her dresses are unique & can be picked out of a lot of wedding gowns easily.

On the moroccan styled shoot I worked at the end of July we used the Paloma gown by Hayley Paige. A favorite of brides & vendors this season. With the statement balero that accompanies the wedding dress how could it not be??

After styled shoots we always give credit & tag all those involved, including the designers & where the dresses come from.

Well this particular shoot.....Miss Hayley Paige herself took notice after seeing it shared on Pure English Couture Bridal's facebook page.....

& then on the High Voltage Hair by Crystal Casey facebook page.

To be noticed by a designer of this magnitude is a great honor. Its an amazing feeling to all involved. Miss Paige even took it one step further & shared our masterpiece on her own Instagram page, which is an even bigger honor & more amazing feeling. Its almost unreal.

I have another styled shoot coming up this fall that will include another new & amazing dress from Hayley Paige so stay tuned!

Big shout out & thank you to Stephanie Michelle for letting me be a part of this awesome shoot.

  • I couldn't wait until Monday….part 2

As a business owner, I face many different choices when it comes to avenues of advertising.

Last year was my first year of advertising & I choose to go with print in the Hampton Roads Wedding Planner Magazine. After my year was up, I just decided it wasn't for me. While I don't regret it & am extremely grateful for the opportunities I was given to participate with a great network of other wedding vendors and even have my work featured. It was a great first avenue & I'm glad I took it.

Now for my second year of advertising I decided to go with more of an online presence. With all of the technology available to us, everything we ever need to know or want to find is right at our fingertips!

So I am proud to announce that I have signed up with WeddingWire! Now I know what you are thinking, "Hey, isn't WeddingWire a free service?" Well like everything else, not much in this world is free. While, yes, you can have a free listing on WeddingWire it doesn't come with all the amazing online tools that makes life so much easier for myself and my brides. Every bride gets their own site, where every document they need can be uploaded! You can sign contracts electronically & even take payments and send invoices/reminders. SO.MUCH.SIMPLIER!

So head on over to my WeddingWire storefront and check out High Voltage Hair by Crystal Casey! Im 32 reviews strong & counting! (which can also be seen on my Facebook)

To all past, present and future brides & amazing wedding vendors that support me I thank you & look forward to an amazing rest of the 2014 wedding season!

Ps- shout out to Jessica at COSDesign for hooking me up with this sweet blog signature! Find her on Facebook & etsy!
